Equine Bowen Therapy

Picture
Equine Bowen therapy works similarly to human Bowen therapy (Fascial Kinetics). It is useful for a large range of conditions, from acute to chronic, including:
  • Restricted movement, uneven or disunited gait, or irregular action.
  • Muscle atrophy or uneven development.
  • Stiffness on one rein.
  • 'Cold back' or sore back.
  • Weakened lymphatic/immune system.
  • Unexplained change of temperament or deterioration of performance.

As horses are natural athletes, they are designed to move freely in an unimpaired way. Any restriction is likely to be accompanied by pain or discomfort or both. All horses can benefit from Bowen therapy, whether they are young and developing, in heavy training (race or competition), or happy hackers. A treatment can help your horse gain more freedom through the shoulder, power from the hindquarters and more elevation in his stride.
A happy horse = a happy owner!

Combined horse and rider treatments are also encouraged. Minor (or major) imbalances in the rider can present themselves in the horse (and vise versa), so it makes sense that it is useful to address both horse and rider simultaneously.

Case Studies

Joey

17 Year old TB hack. Joey had a series of three Bowen treatments with no other changes made (to feed/exercise etc.) and displayed excellent physical improvements. He had presented with sacroiliac pain and difficulty holding his hind legs for the farrier -both hugely improved with his treatments.

Portia

12 Year old mare -all rounder/happy hacker. Portia had a series of three treatments as her workload was increasing and had an excellent response. Portia had displayed moderate pain over her poll, but no other very obvious areas of discomfort. Obvious physical improvements were made, as well as an increased length of stride, increased freedom through her shoulder, and improvement in her willingness to go forward etc.
