HUMAN BOWEN THERAPY -Fascial Kinetics

Bowen Therapy is complementary therapy with no forceful manipulation or deep massage. It is a gentle, non-invasive holistic treatment that helps to re-balance the body and kick start the body's own healing processes. It has few contraindications and is appropriate for almost everyone. It can be applied through loose clothing and a treatment will generally take around 45 minutes.

During a treatment rolling type moves are made over specific points on the body to address the fascia between the muscles and the skin (fascia being a continuous web of connective tissue throughout the body by which cell communication occurs -think the silver outside of a chicken breast). Adhesions within the fibres in the fascia  are released, allowing the affected area to become hydrated. This helps the structures within the fascia -nerves, muscles, lymph and blood vessels, and organs to function more efficiently and can lead to improved general health and decreased pain levels.

What to expect...

Picture
During the treatment you will have a series of moves made with (approximately two minute) waits allowed at certain points. Most people find it very relaxing -many even fall asleep!

Increased energy levels, improved body mechanics and reduced pain levels are a common response to a Bowen treatment. If you are dehydrated and have gluing of the fascia, reactions can also include tiredness, shifting musculo-skeletal discomfort and headaches. Drinking plenty of water before and after a treatment will reduce the likelihood of having this type of response.

For most people, two to three sessions are recommended spaced a week or two apart, chronic conditions may require further treatments. For general health, monthly maintenance sessions are ideal.
